Radon Testing

With Senty Construction LLC - Inspection Services, you are assured that your Radon Test result is reliable. I use a MN Dept of Health approved Continuous Radon Monitor to measure and analyze the radon levels in your home. You'll receive a detailed report of my findings and any necessary recommendations.

In addition to the average radon level present in your home for the test period, your report includes hourly measurements of radon, home environmental conditions, and weather conditions that may effect radon levels. I'm dedicated to delivering the best service and ensuring your familys health and safety. Your safety and home health is my priority at Senty Construction LLC - Inspection Services!

Radon in Homes:

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) provides information on radon and how to protect your family's health. MDH recommends that every Minnesota home be tested for radon.

What is radon?

Radon is a colorless and odorless gas that comes from the soil. The gas can accumulate in the home. Radon gas decays into fine particles that are radioactive. When inhaled, these fine particles can damage the lungs. Exposure to radon over a long period of time can lead to lung cancer.

It is estimated that 21,000 people die each year in the United States from lung cancer due to radon exposure. A radon test is the only way to know how much radon is in your home. Radon can be reduced with a mitigation system.

Key Points For Radon Testing

At Senty Construction LLC - Inspection Services, I emphasize the recommendations of the MN Dept of Health, "The MN Dept of Health strongly recommends that ALL home buyers have an indoor radon test performed prior to purchase or taking occupancy, and recommends having the radon levels mitigated if elevated radon concentrations are found." In addition, "Retest every 5 years if NO mitigation system is installed", and "Retest every 2 years to ensure an installed mitigation system remains effective."

Note that over 40% of tested Cook County homes reported radon levels above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. As a home buyer, you should insist on having your home tested for radon prior to occupancy. It's an issue of the health of you and your family.

In order to offer radon testing to the public, the MN Dept of Health requires specialized training and certification. As required, I'm licensed (RMEA-00192) to perform radon testing. The safety and health of your family are my priority at Senty Construction LLC - Inspection Services.

Radon and Cancer

What is radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas. It forms naturally from the decay (breaking down) of radioactive elements (such as uranium) which are found in different amounts in soil and rock throughout the world. Radon gas in the soil and rock can move into the air and into underground water and surface water.

Radon is present outdoors and indoors. It is normally found at very low levels in outdoor air and in drinking water from rivers and lakes. It can be found at higher levels in the air in houses and other buildings, and in water from underground sources, such as well water.

Radon breaks down into solid radioactive elements called radon progeny (such as polonium-218, polonium-214, and lead-214). Radon progeny can attach to dust and other particles and can be inhaled into the lungs. As radon and radon progeny inside your lungs breaks down, they give off radiation that can damage the DNA inside the body’s cells.
